The elephant in the room…

With us hosting the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup I thought that I should at least write one blog about the tournament. There are so many angles to approach this blog but I can obviously choose one. There is one team in the tournament that I considered or maybe I still consider them to be an elephant in the room. Let me start of by saying that this team is ranked number one by FIFA, they have played 95 matches in the World Cup and have only lost 15. They have won a total of 5 World Cup titles, with their first title dating back from as earlier as 1958.

Are you still wondering whom I am talking about? It could only be the Brazilians of course. When they enter the field there is sure to be a true show case of football by this team. Brazil is a country in which football/soccer is regarded as a religion because of the way it is loved by its people. Children from the tender age of five can be seen on the streets of Brazil playing soccer and imitating their favourite stars, wanting to be just like them one day.

With their entire country behind them, it is not surprising how spectacular the Brazilian team is on the field. They have caused many upsets during their participation in the World Cup knocking out peoples favourite teams in the earlier stages of the tournament. Many countries fear them on the field and they have grown to be known as the “samba boys” because of the way they move swiftly with the ball.

In this World Cup it was never meant to be for the Brazilians, being knocked out of the quarter finals must have been a huge upset for them. Well at least they have the 2014 World Cup to look forward to. They will surely be the elephant in the room in their own backyard. Therefore the other teams should watch out for them.

  1. The Brazillian soccer team is my personal favourite! They are a very strong team indeed. Looking forward to watching them play in their own country during the 2014 World Cup.
